The Globe® Mapping and Ablation System

Globe

The Globe® Mapping and Ablation System is a complete system intended to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation.

The main components of the Globe system are:

  • The Globe catheter
  • The Globe software console
  • The Globe controller

The Globe catheter

The Globe catheter contains an expanding, contacting, semi-compliant array of 122 flat electrodes that expands to contact the inside of the left atrium.

Once deployed into the atrium, the array can:

  • Map anatomy
  • Map electrical activity
  • Measure temperature
  • Pace
  • Ablate

Measurements from all electrodes can be simultaneously and continuously combined into anatomical maps and atrial electrical activity maps.

The system uses RF energy to heat and ablate cardiac tissue within the left atrium to treat atrial fibrillation.

The Globe software console

Software

The Globe software console uses the high density array of electrodes to provide detailed electrophysiological mapping. With 122 electrodes, it is possible to do activation mapping and voltage mapping of atrial tissue quickly and easily for a single cardiac cycle.

In addition, the Globe WAVE™ maps provide real time, continuous display of the electrical activation in the atrium. WAVE™ maps show real time propagation of electrical activity across the atrium, even during ablation.

Using the software console, ablation sites are selected on the map, and then the selected electrodes are automatically activated by the system, which allows for multiple, simultaneous ablations.

The Globe controllerGlobe Controller

The Globe controller contains all of the electronics to continuously measure the cardiac electrograms, measure temperature, and control the ablation power of the electrodes.

The catheter is connected to the controller by a catheter cable.

The safety and effectiveness of the Globe system are still under investigation. The Globe system has not received market approval, licencing, or clearance, and it is currently not available for sale in any jurisdictions. CAUTION: Investigational device limited by federal (or United States) law to investigational use.
