243 Biomedical Engineer – Cardiac Mapping

By joining the Kardium team, you can help make a difference in the lives of millions around the world. Kardium is developing a ground breaking medical device for the minimally-invasive diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation, a heart condition that can cause strokes, heart failure, and other heart-related complications.

As our Biomedical Engineer – Cardiac Mapping, you will work on a team that is focused on developing the algorithms necessary to process electrical, anatomical, and spatial information collected during cardiac ablation procedures to generate the 3-dimensional maps used by electrophysiologists during catheter ablation. You would have the opportunity to bring your creative and innovative ideas to help Kardium achieve its goal of helping improve people’s lives.

What you’ll do…

  • Apply scientific investigation methods to drive product innovations in mapping and navigation algorithms.
  • Data analysis at the desktop and hands-on experimentation at the benchtop
  • Systematically analyze large multivariate data sets of electrophysiological, anatomical, spatial, and procedural data
  • Complete algorithm design and numerical analysis for contact assessment, navigation, electrophysiology, and ablation
  • Identify and review established techniques for technical problems, including performing literature searches
  • Review and investigate data from cardiac procedures to provide actionable insights for product development
  • Communicate experiments, analyses and results to teammates and senior leadership

What you bring to the team…

Our Kardium team is smart, creative, and passionate about creating cutting-edge medical devices to help improve people’s lives. We work within a collaborative environment based on trust and respect. And we understand that only by working together can we solve the unsolvable. You bring to the team these characteristics, plus:

  • Either a bachelor or graduate degree in engineering, physics, or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years experience in research or development within a high-technology field; experience with medical devices or equivalent preferred
  • A solid understanding of the principles of experimental design
  • Extensive experience with programming for data analysis, emphasis on MATLAB or Python
  • An excellent understanding of multivariate analysis and statistics, with added emphasis on time-series and spatial data
  • Familiarity with topics in applied mathematics that support clinical algorithm design; these topics could include calculus, linear algebra, optimization, regression, and classification, among others
  • Experience searching and critically interpreting scientific literature to determine the published ‘state of the art’
  • A demonstrated ability to interpret results and translate them into actionable recommendations
  • An aptitude for working independently and balancing multiple tasks while maintaining your attention to detail
  • Effective written and verbal communication of technical subject matter
  • An understanding of electrophysiology and the biophysics of cardiac conduction and ablation is an asset
  • An understanding of object-oriented programming, source control, and Java are all assets
